The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention reports that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States, with an average of 123 suicides a day. Even more staggering, for every suicide, there are an additional 25 attempts at suicide.
This topic hits close to home for me: we lost my brother to suicide several years ago, and I would do anything in my power to help others who struggle with suicidal thoughts.
My good friend and suicide prevention activist Taryn Aiken Hiatt has shared several messages on this topic. As Taryn says, "Suicide is not a moral failing; it is a health issue and we need to treat it as such." Please watch her videos and do everything you can to educate yourself and your loved ones on this very important topic.
If you are in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741.
